Adoption of the classrooms

Basic Information

SAVIO in co-operation with BOSCOAID (Sudanese Salesian organization) supports the run of the basic schools and training centres in the capital of the South Sudan - Juba, Gumbo area, Wau, and also the construction of the satellite schools in the area of Tonj town.

Adoption 1 There was a new project established from September 2009: Adoption of the Classrooms – Sudan, which is following the previous successful project A Small Brick for Sudan and it is the unique project all over the world. Partner of the project is BOSCOAID. Until now there were only projects which provided the adoption of the individual children and not the whole group.

The aim of this project is to provide the mutual know of the young people in Slovakia and Sudan, and let the anonymous relationship between donor and presented be changed to the friendship. The project will help also to Slovakia learn about the life in Sudan and to Sudan learn about the life in Slovakia.

During the time of the adoption it is possible to write a letter in English for the adopted classroom in Sudan and attach some pictures. The correspondence from Slovakia will be collected by SAVIO office approximately twice a year and it will be sent to the project partner who will deliver it to the individual school in Sudan. The responses from each adopted Sudanese classroom will be sent to the Slovak classrooms by the same way.

Adoption 2The individuals, companies, basic schools, secondary schools, also nursery schools from the whole Slovakia can adopt a classroom of the basic school or training centre. They will bind themselves to support the assigned classroom by the assigned amount (minimum 100 Eur monthly) on monthly basis. The amount will be used for the teaching aids, schol uniforms, meal for the children and small contribution to the teacher"s salary.

There are no suitable buildings for the schools built at the South Sudan until now and so the lessons are conducting directly under the mango trees during March to December. The lessons are in English. The pupils are attending the schol at age of 5 – 15, but it is common, that there also older pupils. The school attendance is not obligatory and the children come to the school on their own initiative. At the time of the lessons the pupils get one hot meal daily which is corn mush, rise or beans. The monthly fee for the running of one classroom is approximately 100 Eur.

SAVIO would like to educate and motivate the young people for the value of solidarity, responsibility especially for the poor and backward people by the particular projects like this.

The Life in the Towns and Villages according to the Volunteers

Mori
