Thanks to a joint effort, a total of € 42,081 has been raised over the past two months. During the period from 3rd March 2022 to 27th April 2022 the Slovak public was able to participate in a campaign not only through financial support but also thanks to challenges and activities offered by an organisation on its website www.tehlicka.sk and accompanying brochure. You can still donate the fundraising to support the construction of the teachers‘ hostel runs until the end of October at www.tehlicka.sk
As many as 40 kindergartens and primary and secondary schools have participated in the activities and challenges of the accompanying programme this year. „We are very pleased that we were once again able to offer quality materials to the schools to give children and young people a better insight into the lives of their peers in this region of Africa and in the Kakuma refugee camp,“ said the President of SAVIO o.z. Štefan Kormančík SDB. „Heartfelt thanks go to all donors who contributed financially to the Tehlička (the Brick) for Kakuma fundraising initiative, to all the schools and pupils involved, to the families and to all those who informed about the possibility of this aid,“ concluded the Chairman of SAVIO o.z.. Thanks to the intensive cooperation with the locals, we have offered an online exhibition of photographs of life in the refugee camp on our social networks. The photographs were collected during the visit to Kakuma. The collection’s website allowed visitors to play online games aimed at getting to know the African region of Turkana, learning crafts taught to children and youth in Kakuma or Swahili vocabulary.
The funds provided will be used by the Salesians of Don Bosco in Kenya to finance the purchase of the necessary materials for the construction, the salaries of the workers and other essential expenses related to the project. With this assistance, the children and youth of Kakuma will have the opportunity to receive a quality education. Because without good teachers, there is no good school.
