Tehlička has been helping for more than 20 years. In 2026, too, we continue this work of solidarity – this time for young people in Syria. Over the past two decades we have supported dozens of projects in Africa, Asia and South America. This year we are responding to the great need in a country marked by armed conflict, economic collapse and earthquake.

Why Syria?

Since the war broke out in 2011, more than 6 million Syrians have left their homes, and millions more are internally displaced. Despite the danger, the Salesians of Don Bosco stand by families, children and young people in Damascus, Aleppo and Kafroun – providing education, a safe space, psychological support and humanitarian aid.

The children and young people who come to the centres have often lost their home, friends or family members. In the Salesian communities, however, they find an island of hope – a place where they can learn, play, talk about what troubles them, and experience childhood once again.

How will Tehlička 2026 help?

This year we want to help young people in Syria open the door to a new future. Our aim is to:

– run vocational courses for 500 students at the new SAVIO education centre in Damascus,

– equip the training centre in Damascus, which will enable young people to gain the practical skills they need for work,

– support their practical skills through vocational internships and start-up packages for launching a business,

– provide psychosocial counselling, which will help young people cope with the stress and trauma of long-term armed conflict in the country.
