We joined forces with VIDES
From 13 to 15 February we spent a weekend with a group of young people in Lúčky near Ružomberok. Missionary volunteering and VIDES are linked above all by the fact that we do mission in the Salesian style, and so together we explored Don Bosco and his preventive system. That was brought closer to us by the weekend’s guest, Salesian Ján Holubčík. Through case studies and through his own personal experience from a boarding school, he presented us with the pillars of the pedagogy through which Don Bosco changed the established patterns of educating young people. A nice summary of the weekend is the sentence: “The preventive system is universal in its principles and culturally flexible in its expressions.”
Experiences from Azerbaijan and South Sudan
For the weekend we were joined by candidate Agasif from Azerbaijan, and despite the packed programme we did not miss watching the Olympic ice-hockey tournament. Saturday evening was made all the more pleasant by former volunteer Tomáš Laštík, who came after 15 years to share his African experience from South Sudan. The entertainment programme was taken care of by VIDES volunteers — see the video for more.
